Quad 290 power requiremnts

Hi

Im planning on making a PC to mine litecoins and i want to do it with 4 amd r9 290's because they have the best hash rate to power ratio (to my knowledge).

this is the system that i am planning on building:

M/B:                 Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3, AM3+ socket

Ram:               4GB

CPU:               AMD Athlon II X2 270 3.4GHz 65w

graphics card: AMD R9 290 times 4

hard drive:      any old crappy one I have laying round the house

Case:              no case this will be an open air rig

My question is what power supply unit would you recommend to power this set up? I plan on overclocking the memory on the graphics cards.

i have thought about getting this power supply

would a power supply like this be enough?

Thank you

Edit - i will be using PCI-E extender to plug all the graphics cards in

you may want to look into 2 power supplies you may find that its more energy efficient than one large one because you would likely be above the 80% usage for efficiency mark, that being said i don't have any experience litecoin mining so this is just coming from building my own rigs and changing dead psus in aileanware rigs

i found an arnser to my question :)

cpu = 50 watts

gpu = 263 - 250 watts~ x4

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/R9_290/24.html

1 hard drive/MB/ 2 sticks RAM = 140 watts

i used this website to add all my parts together to tell me how much wattage i need

http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power

and finaly i have decided what power supply i will be using!

*drum roll*

Corsair AX1200i

http://www.corsair.com/us/power-supply-units/ax-series-power-supply-units/ax1200i-digital-atx-power-supply-1200-watt-80-plus-platinum-certified-fully-modular-psu.html

http://www.corsair.com/us/media/cms/manual/corsair-psu-spec-table-091813.pdf

why did i pick this one?

  • 80+platinum efficiency
  • rated at running at 50 centigrade non-stop
  • software that tells me how much power i am using
  • i live in the UK so i get better efficiency from this power supply at 100% load which is 92%. in america it is 89%

their is probably no room in this power supply for overclocking and it is just enough power for me to run my set up

if i had opted for a top of the line CPU with everything overclocked then i would need a 1500w~ roughly to over clock and add hard drives, fans, led strips and such.

i hope this helped for anyone else with a similar question :)
