OK, you all know that the 6600 is quad, and is at 2.4 ghz. the 8400 is dual, and is at 3.0 ghz. I am NOT an overclocker, and I want to be able to play games. They are the same price right now, do you think I should go with the dual 3.0 ghz or the quad 2.4 ghz? I want to be able to play old games like counterstrike 1.6, but also new games like cod 4, and stuff like that. So, what do you guys think? quad, or dual?
at this point in time the smarter choice is the q6600 but if you plan on upgrading soon, go with the e8400.
i think you should go with the q6600 because a lot of games are coming out that are going to be optimized for quad cores. so, if you want to futureproof your rig go with the q6600 but, if you are planning on getting a new rig soon just grab the e8400.
Even if you do future proof your rig with a quad core, unless you are doing cpu intensive stuff there really is no need. I understand newer games are capitalizing on the quad core market but with the proper computer setup it really wont be that big a difference playing games. I would venture to say (guessing here) that you won't notice the difference outside of benchmarking.
I see. I think im gonna go with the e8400, ill still be able to play the latest games, and in a few years better quad cores will be cheaper anyways
that they will be.
i recommend going with the E8400 because it's 45nm and 6mb L2 and the freq ( 3.0 GHz ) over the Q6600 because for 1 year at least games will work the same on each cpu probably giving an edge to the E8400...i'd say you'll be ok with the dual core BUT in a year or two games will work better on Quad's so...your choice
i reccomend the q6600 because it can aslo act like a dual it dosent have to use all the 4 cores
for the same price you will able to have a dual and a quad built in to the q6600
2 for the price of one.
at the same price you are getting alot of more features be wise and get the quad
Features are nice but I prefer performance....Dual core gets better performance benchmarks in the games I play and a few if not most others. personal preference is key when choosing I guess.
for the same price the quad is definitely the way to go, as far as games go the fps jump between processors is much less than it use to be with the better graphic cards out.. all in all though both are great just depends how often you upgrade..as far as quads being cheaper later on how much are you willing to pay for a quad? the q6600 is already 199.99 i wouldn't think it will drop that much its already an amazing price for what you get imo
if you get the q6600 you'll have to overclock it because the stock clock isn't high, so if you dont want to overclock get the e8400
Overclocking is so easy, and with the Q6600 you can EASILY push it past 3.0 Ghz on stock cooling. Having a Q6600 and not overclocking is a waste,
q6600 now all the games will come with updates and new games will be designed for quad core

Dewlity is right the q6600 is quite easy to overclock but if u dont want to its still great
