I have just purchased the following monitor on eBay: VIEWSONIC 21.5" Widescreen LED LCD Monitor. However, there is an issue with the monitor: it has a faint image behind what the sellers claims is a failing LCD. (Exact seller description: Faint Image Produced Behind Failing LCD) Is there any way this can be fixed? I assume it might be a failing lamp or inverter, rather than a failing LCD. Can anyone with experience off me some advice on this issue?
Yeah probably just the invertor board ~ faint image/test with a torch behind panel etc, not hard to replace but coming across one that is compatible could be costly. Unless you know of junked ones somewhere that you can scavenge for parts. I honestly wouldnt have bothered unless you got it for free.
@deejeta Thanks for the quick response, friend. I believe I got the monitor for approximately $10, that is USD, shipped. (Not trying to insult your intelligence, but people have asked what currency after denoting the numerical amount with the dollar sign.) I think I might be able to scavenge the web for one. Is there any likelihood I could simply open the monitor and wiggle a few things around to fix it? If anyone could find a replacement for the monitor for cheap, then I would appreciate if you could link it here. Thanks to everyone who contributes to fixing my issue.

Correction: The model number is VG2228wm (a Viewsonic monitor)

Might get lucky and a wiggle/shake/kick may get it going again. Could just be a bad connection somewhere.
- Check if backlights are still working
- Dark room, monitor on, look at the rear of unit and see if you see white lights on, on the inside through the vents at the top panel. Take off the back panel if need be.
- If backlights & no image - either the con board or the main board. Could be a bad cap etc.
- No backlights
- Dark room, turn on monitor, press menu button (or send something to it to display) then get a torch and shine it on the screen quite close, if you see a faint image of anything then you can pretty much count on that its the inverter board. Sometimes you can get lucky and find a board that has roughly the same amount of backlight outlets, etc - in your case I'd image it'd be 4 so you may be able to dodgy up connection with another old LCD monitors inverter board. Just be bloody careful though.
check if its still on warranty, and rma :)
