So I built my X99 rig and used some cheap POS Shark PSU. I haven't had any issues with it, and it handled a mild over clock without blowing up. So here is my current system:
i7 5820k (I would like to run this at 4.7ghz as it can handle it. Stressed it for 12 hours with Aida64)
8gb of Crucial Ballistix DDR4 (1.35v, 2666mhz, 12-13-13-30-1)
HD 7870 IceQ Turbo (going to mod bios to run at 1200/1450 at 1.3v, tested this with afterburner and Aida)
I don't think there is really anything else that consumes more than 10w so I'm going to leave it at that.
Planned upgrades:
Going to add a 390 for pass through with the 7870
32gb of RAM
That's it. In the future I may crossfire the 390 and use crossfired 390s and the 7870 for pass through.
I don't want to spend more than $120... I may be able to stretch to $150 but at this time can't.
So... All you're wanting is a new PSU? Tbh, what you get doesn't matter too much so long as it's solid. 80+ bronze cert or better, always, and check the main 12V rails. I'm not sure what wattage you'll need, but you can use an online calculator for that. If you want a recommendation, I currently use a Thermaltake Toughpower 750W 80+ Gold PSU. So far, it's been solid as a rock, it's modular, I got it cheap (comparatively), and it comes in higher wattage versions if I'm not mistaken.

Was looking at the 850w version. Do you think it would be enough for an overclockee X99 system?

Use this calculator, it should answer your question. I'm on my phone, so I can't quickly do it myself and you know everything about your rig that I don't.

If I was you I would look into something Seasonic or Super Flower based as they are the most reliable OEM's out there besides Delta. Realistically if you take your computers estimated wattage and add 150W-200W of headroom you should be more than fine. I also really like fully modular PSU's so that might be somtehing to consider looking into as well. If you want a recommendation from me I would suggest picking up an EVGA G2 or GS series PSU. If you have any questions and/or concerns I'm more than happy to help.

I just removed a few year old Toughpower 850 out of my daily driver, excellent PS still worked great but replaced it with a 1050w Seasonic X, the Thermaltake went right into another box and I expect it to run for a lot more years.

I've heard a lot of good about Seasonic PSUs. I might have to try to get one next time I'm building. For now, I'm happy I found this toughpower when I did. Cable management got so much better and no more dirty, unstable power XD

I've never owned one before, I've used a lot of different PSUs over the years, I use to like Ultras, and like everyone else have used EVGA and Corsair pretty well had good luck with most of them, the Seasonic is fully modular which is really nice and I'm hoping it will last through several builds, it wasn't cheap but then nothing of any quality really is anymore.
