PSU hookup

Im connecting a Rog Zenith Extreme Alpha to my PSU and the manual shows the 24 pins + 2 x 8 pins need to be connected. Do I use a 6 + 2 pin PCI-E connector for the 8 pins? It just seems odd since the 6 pin head is separate from the 2 pin plastic connector.

You dont need 2 8 pin for the CPU you can just use 1 it will be fine (you will be limited on power budget tho so dont OC it if its the big boy)

You dont want to use a PCIE power connecter to go to the CPU needs to be 4+4 , they are pinned out differently

Ok I didnt receive a 8 pin connctor with the PCU or the Motherboard.

The PSU will give you an 4+4 not an 8 pin solid connector generally (havent seen any that arent 4+4, not to say they dont exist)

What PSU do you have?

So the manual says to plug both in TR might draw more then the 1 8pin can demand, havent seen power numbers on those (never looked into it, I know main stream and 1st gen TR didnt need it)

So if you exceed that you might have issues with just 1 connector

Great source of info on connectors

So according to tweaktown

1 connector would work but 100% on the edge of whats safe, so prob best with 2 with literally any OC

Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 850W 80+ Gold SLI

I checked and it says its ATX rated for this motherboard

Ok it shows it comes with (2) 4 + 4 ATX 12v. Are those what I need?

Thanks!

Ok, Whats the “pemium version”?

Double check the link, the item is a really long description, wiht a lot of buzwords.

Sorry, I fired off before double checking.

The one I saw on Newegg might (maybe) have a couple of extra bit, not too sure

I only see 1 x 8 pin connection on the back of the PSU. Do I use the 10 pin and only the 8 corresponding pins that match?
The manual for the zenith extreme alpha shows that I need 2 x 8 pin

Look through the cables provided find the two that have 4+4 pin on the one end, Guessing one of the 4+4 pin has 2 8 pin connectors on the other end or 2 6 pins

The 10 pin connector does look odd, like it is supposed to connect to the 4+4, but the clip is in the wrong place for the 8pin connector. interresting

Ok I was looking at the picture on Thermaltakes website ****://www.thermaltakeusa.com/toughpower-gf1-850w-tt-premium-edition.html and it doesnt show 2 x 8 pin spots. Thanks for for image.

Should I go up to a 1000w? I can get the EVGA SuperNOVA 220-G3-1000-X1 and save the Thermaltake for another project. Not sure if the EVGA G3 would be better even in the 850 watts

you ideally want the load you computer is going to be at most of the time to be around 50% of PSU load (the most efficient part of most psus) so depend on how you are using the computer and future expansion.
