PSU help

hey guys. i need help on clearing up some PSU problems.

this is my PSU i'll be buying in a few days:   http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020

he says there are only 2 PCI express power plugs, and i'm thinking of eventually crossfiring my GPU with the same GPU.

will i have enough power cables to do this? i really don't want to order everything and when they get here i don't have enough power cables to plug everything in.

by the way this is my complete build. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/18ZUb

thanks for your help guys. first time builder over here.

that psu is fine.

I can crossfire both radeons on that? without any power problems?

Most, if not all GPUs come with Molex to PCI-e power adapters. youll be fine with those cables.

But you will probably need a more powerful PSU. I wouldnt trust Crossfire on a 650watt.

650W for 2 7770´s should be enough.

HD 7770 System Requirement

  • PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
  • 450W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended
  • 600W power supply (or greater) with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors recommended for AMD CrossFire™ technology in dual mode.

just picked it up from the HiS site. But  there i go again if you wanne go on crosfire, you will need a 990FX chipsetboard....

Thats 600 for two of them, but you have to take into account all of the other hardware, and you DO want to have some wiggle room for everything else.

especially future upgrades. a good power suppply will last for years, if you get a good, solid, high wattage PSU.

It would be better go get a good one now, instead of getting a weak one now, and a better one later.

the estimated wattage for the build is 314 watts, shouldnt 650 watts be enough even if i add another 7770??

I would. 680 SLI, overclocked, runs fine on 650W, so any AMD card will run fine on 650W in 2-way CF.

yes it would be enough but it would put added stress on the power supply and cause it to degrade in performance faster. for instance i have 2 6850's xfired a 8350 and 2 hdds 7200 rpm and 7 fans in my case. i use a 1000w psu from the fact that it is nice to keep the psu under 60% load, that way it is most efficient and you have room to oc and keep everything stable with out worrying about power fluctuations. so yes 650w is fine but does not leave much room for stability when overclocking.

i know it would be nice to get quad digit PSU wattage but that's not exactly in the budget, i just need to know if it'll work and if i'll have problems with the build,. later on when i have money i will upgrade according to priority.

no problem down the road untill you start getting into the high end video cards. just dont expect a 650w psu to last you more than 7 years if you have a 75% constant load on it.

yeah i know. i'm definitely going to update it soon after i build it. my first upgrade will probable me a ssd. then another 7770. then a new psu. then a new MOBO.

dont worry about ssd unless you are a content creator. a 7200 rpm hdd is good enough and for the price of a small ssd you can get 2+ tb hdd at the same cost. focus on a second 7770  then worry about the rest.

after my 7770 should i get a better PSU or MOBO? and do i have to xfire the same GPU? or can i xfire 2 different units?

you have to use cards from the same family ie 7770, 7750, 7790.  they do not have to be from the same manufacturer. i would probably get a new mobo before i got a new psu the 990 fx chipset is amazing plus it gives you the chance to upgrade your cpu down the road. personally i would use a 990fx chipset for any and all fx cpus.  just remmember when you change mobo it is wise to reinstall windows and install the chipset drivers for the new board. when you change processors you do not need to reinstall windows.

a 7790 is a diffrent card  then a 7750 and 7770, it uses a diffrent  chip, so you  probably cannot CF a 7770 with 7790..

going to do some digging on the 7790 to see if you can crossfire it with a 7770. i do believe you can but i will dig around to make shure.

You can crossfire any cards within the same series. all of the 77xx cards will work together.
