PSU for 11 HDD

building a home server with 11 drives
do you know any good PSU's with enough ports

CPU: AMD APU Athlon 5350 25 w

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-AM1M-S2H

Syba SATA III 8 Port PCI-E 2.0 Controller Card x2

WD Caviar 3TB 6w

Fractal Design Define R5

just about any one will do. just make sure its 80+.
use some of these. http://www.amazon.com/Molex-15-Power-Serial-Adapter/dp/B003M75D7I

Also i should add that you should not use wd greens in a server environment..... they kind of suck

I have a server with 12 hard drives and it runs at under 200W. Hard drives use around 8 or 10W at peak.

Sorry, missed the point of your question a little bit :P you can use splitters to run a bunch of hard drives off a single power connector with no problems. I use a few of the Silverstone ones and they're pretty nice.

In my server I have a seasonic 350w 80plus gold psu with a few sata power splitters.

Hard drives can use up to 20W I believe (spin up)

mite go red

WD Reds FTW :D

that's what i wanted to do didn't want to do anything risky

maybe staggered spin up ?

That's certainly a thing but why not go overboard? A 500W psu is only like $75

this looks good
Corsair Builder Series CXM 500W

staggered spin up might affect its lifespan

hell this will work. http://www.dailysteals.com/p/36193/Antec-380W-Power-Supply?__r=1
i have one. it does not have a motherboard or a cpu connector. its just for hdd's and other stuff.

You can run more sata connectors than the included ones with splitters as said above, no problem, as long as you buy a reputable quality psu that will actually keep a stable tension on those lines. After all 11 HHD are not that many,

Consider buying a 500/600W, to give yourself a good headroom and keep the psu in its mid to low load comfort zone.

If you have another pc laying around, why don't you make a test run with the PSU you already have and test how many watts your new system will take from the wall with a wattmeter. Then, get an efficient psu (at least bronze) with a watt rating double the max you ever saw on the watt meter (just a rule of thumb).

As per your hhds, well if you already have them ok, but as other people already said, WD red or Seagate NAS would be a more appropriate choice. Just be sure to use redundancy and backup and be ready to swap dead HHDs when it's time with NAS certified ones.

Have fun!

Just my opinion on PSU sizing. But for a server which is going to be running 24/7 I'd get a PSU with a wattage as close to double what the average load will be. I say this because power supplies are most efficient at 50% load.

Reds are a good choice, have a look at the HGST NAS drives aswell.

CX and good does not belong in the same room!
Corsiars CS/CX series IS crap and it is not uncommon that they start dying within 6months, but the more realistic lifespan is around 2-3year since there is many and i mean MANY that dies around that age.
So STAY AWAY from them!

A few GOOD options on amazon uk is.

Cheapest and only 80+brons (and for a 24/7 box i would choose better 80+)

Have two myself one in htpc (with a Noctua NH-L12 cpu cooler that is a little bit louder) and one in unraid box with 10 drives (really quiet this one as well).

For some head room.

Those MOLEX to SATA adapters have a tendency to set fire to themselves.

You need a PSU with a big 5 volt rail. Also make sure to enabled staggered spin up in BIOS @tidder23

Really? then that means im screwed..... but ive been using molex to 2pin sata adapters for my server hdd's for like 5 years and they have not set fire or broke... and im using a crappy psu. you can see it here: https://forum.teksyndicate.com/t/server-thread-post-your-server-specs/71879

Post your server here when you get it, also look at what other people are using, you dont need the top of the line.
