well, this is what happens when companies overstep their bounds... if you buy the product... its yours, you shouldnt get sued for opening it up.... also, sony needs to realize when you encrypt something, and the encryption should use a random number each time... dont use a constant... sorry your missing out on some gaming... but imo, im agreeing with the attackers on this one...

basically, geohot (or george hotz) purchased a playstation. he never connected to the playstation network, so he never agreed to an end user license agreement. he took it apart and reverse engineered it (mainly due to sony's overlook and not using a random encryption, instead using a constant). he then told everyone what he found.... he bought the product, so legally he owned the rights to the software on it, as well as the hardware (as he never signed an EULA that stated otherwise). sony then sued his ass because he did something they didn't like. and YES this does allow people to play pirated games, but it also allows users to run their own linux OS, and play backup versions of their games in case the disk breaks. keep in mind, sony sold their playstation advertising the feature to use your own OS, and then removed it in a software update.... how fair is that?!?

Bro i was so pissed off i have a long weekend and no work so was going to jam the PS3 hard, but i have to agree with you man its unfair what sony has done and vice versa.

Yeah, I was just talking to a friend of mine who has a PS3, and according to him, PSN has been down for over a week now. This is in the US, btw.

Modern internet is just like that, companies or officials fucking up shit, then people gets angry over them. Our country is going to be next in anon's interested list due to the copyright law bullshit that would come into effect in September.

Reading all ive read on the subject, i think sony's servers went bang, and loosing heaps of source code, and its easyer rebuilding the PSN then it is to try and fix.
