PS4 Controller Connected to PC via Bluetooth

I just bought a PS4 controller specifically to use on my gaming rig and was planning to connect to it through bluetooth. Windows can find the controller no problem, but when it tries to connect to it it says that "it took too long to connect to the device, try again". Does the controller need to be connected to a ps4 before it can work on a computer? Connection through USB works fine and I doubt it's my bluetooth card because I have tried it with the onboard and a dongle. Any ideas?

You have to hold the PS + Share buttons together until the light bar starts flashing, then you can have your PC connect to the controller. You may also want to look into a XInput wrapper to make the PS4 controller emulated an xbox 360 controller. Does wonders for ports.

I personally have a PS4 controller and I got it solely for PC gaming. Don't own a PS4. I use for Wolf Among Us, Walking Dead, NBA 2k14, Mafia 2, and a plethora of other games. Flawless.

Alright I did that and now it says that the drivers installed and that "the device has successfully added to this computer" but in devices and printers it shows up for about 10 seconds and disappears. I had it working through USB earlier so I already have DS4 XInput wrapper configured and in the log it says it's "encountering synchronous write failures". Any idea what's up? I tried it with both onboard and dongle bluetooth once again.

You wouldn't happen to be using Windows 8/8.1, would you? I did a quick search, which lead me a forum, which lead me post about an issue with Windows 8/8.1 where bluetooth devices drop off and fail to reconnect. There is an optional patch for it. Outside of that, I don't have much input. I haven't had any issues at all outside of double input when I'm connected with Bluetooth and USB (for charging), but that's beside the point.

He is on windows 8 yeah and that bluetooth is glitch FREAKING annoying. None of the windows 8 devices should've had bluetooth.

If you have Linux, you can install ds4drv, turn on hidraw mode, and can customize pretty much everything, even the LED on the back and use the touchpad to control the mouse.

If you're using Windows, you will probably need to install something third-party in order for it to work fully.

Nah I'm using Windows 7, it just keeps saying that it installed properly and was successfully added. Not sure where to go from here.

I would like to use linux but I have a few games that only run on windows :/
