Hey there, i am running 4 Proxmox systems with each 2x 1TB SAMSUNG 870 EVO SSDs in raid Z1. The systems are up for ~one year now and i am experiencing high IO delay times (~30%) with 9 Windows Server 2019 running. Also the wearout values of the disks are at 10% in only one year.
Besides that the storage performance of the single VMs is not very good, launching programs/installing windows updates is taking forever compared to a bare metal host.
The other specs of the systems are ASRock Rack X470D4U2-2T with 128GB Ram and an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X.
I was thinking about swapping the disks out for NVME drives and found a pretty good deal for “Western Digital Ultrastar DC SN840 - 3DWPD 1.6TB, SE, U.2” drives. They are currently on sale for 275€ each and got some decent specs i would say:
Read 3311MB/s
Write 2198MB/s
IOPS 4K read/write 736k/224k
TBW 8.76PB
Since I have no experience with NVME and Proxmox so far, I just wanted to get some opinions on compatibility and performance for my application. (I know that i need to get an HBA to run those drives). My systems are running a few applications but nothing super read/write intensive. Mostly Active Directory, DNS and such systems.
