Proxmox/Truenas Build

I’m finally running out of storage on my Truenas server so it’s time to upgrade. Also I’m a network engineer and I have always wanted a VM server to learn more of the sysadmin side of things. I plan to have Truenas run on Proxmox(maybe ESXI in the future) and pass-through the drives. I want to transfer the data off my old 6TB drives to the new 16TB drives. Then use the old drive for VM storage.

Bottomline: I need someone to critique my build. Also, I need it to be as quiet possible.

yeah that case “says” it can hold 18 drives… but dont they only give you trays for like 6?
can this case realistically hold 16 drives

Linus fitted one with 20 drives. But 16 looked practical. You can buy more trays separately.

I imagine the drive temps on half the drives would be quite higher

The two that sit a row back under the PSU shroud, maybe, but they’ll still be getting airflow with 3x140/4x120mm fans installed.

Have you considered going full retard

You’re planning to get 16 drives, but we both know you aren’t gonna stop there.

Also just found this thread which brings up some potential seagate drive oem warranty issues

Eh idk prob will take long enough that going to 30tb drives will be an option
