I am currently migrating my system from a pure Unraid build to a proxmox build with Unraid as a VM. I’ve tested this Unraid VM for a few months, and it works without any issues.
I’d like my Unraid array to handle the storage of the important stuff. I’ve passed through the SATA ports of the drives to Unraid, so it can spin down the HDDs when not in use.
I’m running into some issues, and maybe that is because my setup seems sub-optimal.
I’m using my Unraid shares to store stuff like the backups, VMs etc. as disks in Proxmox. This way everything is protected by the Unraid parity, and I don’t need to set up anything else.
I’ve noticed that, for some reason, when I reboot Unraid, proxmox keeps losing the connection with shares, and won’t reconnect some of them until I restart Proxmox. Not optimal with backups.
Is this the ‘normal’ way of doing things, or is it smarter to throw in a dedicated drive that backs up to the array?
