At work, we have a series of Proliant DL380 Gen9 (Former ESXi) servers we are decommissioning. As each has 256GB RAM and decent dual CPU so I had the idea to replace our dated backup server with one of them. Install Windows Server 2019 and life is good. 4 x 10GB card and three times the power of the older box. Issue is, none of them have drives. We have plastic blanks that seal off the drive bays and nothing to mount a drive on. The few “official” HP drives I’ve found on line are $600 - $800US for one 2.5" SAS SSD which come with the official carrier that has the proprietary connector for Proliant servers.
Wanted to get 2 x SSD for the OS (200GB or so) and 2 x 800 GB minimum for recovery data drive. RAID 1 for both.
Anyone know of any alternatives out there where you can just get the carriers? Then I can supply some of my own SSD from the spares shelf (hopefully).
