http://wccftech.com/amd-project-quantum-not-dead-zen-cpu-vega-gpu/ looks like amds project quantum hasnt died after all :D and for somereason i can press enter to make a new line?
Is anyone even interested in that? I mean yeah, OK, it's a nice idea... Why should I get this? It will be basically a console. Can't touch it, because it's completely custom...
What if it wasn't actually a console, but an easily upgradable PC. Much like that idea razor had a while back.
For example, the top section is like the CPU and GPU, whilst the lower portion was the IO and storage.
So it sits in an easily upgradable position for people who are not tech savvy (i.e. to change the CPU and GPU, you simply swap the top portions)
However, I do agree with "Why should I get this?". Yea it isn't for me, but with consoles now entering a weird phase and rumours of consoles not having another generation. Would those users be open to a platform like this that could be upgraded without replacing the entire thing?
Anyway, nice to see AMD doing something and potentially reopening the PC market to a wider audience.
If they do it right it will be more than just a console. IF you could continuously upgrade it... I can see it being something stylish in a multimedia room
What actually just occured to me is the possibility of the super, over the top Zen APU. HBM on die with something like a Fury X tier gpu and Zen cpu combo could make this much more enticing. I would be super down for that, as the cpu portion was the section I thought would be rather simple compared to a socketed gpu. That would also mean the cooling would be a lot more simple compared to if the cpu and gpu were cooled independently. That radiator would have to be pretty kickass though.
