Hi all, full disclosure up front: I built this, so this is self promo. Wendell said it was fine in his Frigate on Proxmox LXC thread, so here we are.
The site: https://cctv-database.com
Repo: https://github.com/ch-bas/cctv-camera-database
What it is: a spec database for IP cameras, more than 8,500 models across 135 brands right now. Everything comes from the official manufacturer datasheets. If a spec isn’t in the datasheet, the field stays empty. The whole thing is CC0 so you can take the JSON and do whatever you want with it.
Why I made it: I was trying to pick cameras for Frigate and got tired of digging through PDFs to figure out if a camera has a usable substream, does h265, needs the cloud, has ONVIF, etc. Manufacturer sites are terrible for comparing across brands and most “review” sites are affiliate junk.
Stuff that’s useful for this crowd:
-
filter by codec, resolution, PoE, ONVIF, cloud required (or not), sensor size, IR range and so on
-
Frigate configs on some camera pages(community verified) ,they’re kept separate from the datasheet data and labeled as such.
-
the raw data is JSON with a schema, validated in CI, so you can pull it into your own tooling
-
every camera page links back to the datasheet it was built from
Known gaps: substream specs are missing for a lot of cameras because manufacturers often don’t publish them. ONVIF is currently just a yes/no, a proper profile breakdown is in progress.
If you spot wrong data, that’s the thing I care about most. Issue or PR on the repo, or reply here. If you have a working Frigate config for a camera that’s in the database, I’d take that too.
Not selling anything, no ads, no affiliate links.
