I know some of you may already know about this, but many do not. I used to love playing the original Everquest back in the day when I was like 13-14. When the years went on the game changed and other games came out with new ideas and the game changed and became easy like the newer MMO's had become. Project 1999 is a private emulated Everquest server with a drive to make the game as close to the original game from 1999 as possible. The graphics are straight from windows 98 era gfx cards, but the gameplay is amazing. It is pretty much the single hardest MMO I have ever played. The game is a slugfest from the very beginning. You have to claw your way to the top. There isn't even a map in the UI. There is no notification that someone has a quest, and even if they have a quest there no such thing as a journal or logbook...... You just have to remember what you were doing. The game has a very long grind to the top, and you can only have one client per ip address connecting to the server. You are probably saying, "that sounds terrible, and way too hard to be fun," but that is in the end why it is fun. Due to the game being so brutaly difficult, you will notice that it has a very friendly, helpful, and fun community. There is always people to talk to no matter where you are, or what you are doing. You can almost always find a group to do the stuff you want to do, and it lets you explore dungeons and areas in ways you never can in the newer MMO games. There is more of a feeling of accomplishment when you finally get that item you needed for the key quest to the dungeon you were doing, or when you finally get to the bottom of that dungeon with your friends, only to have to leave 20 minutes later. If any of you want a game that can pretty much run on anything, and has a fun "retro" vibe that you might not have had for a while, then I suggest checking it out.
