Problems with reinstalling Ubuntu via USB

At the “Assign Driver Letter or Path” screen,

Select “Do Not Assign a drive letter or path” and then click next.

That option, while “visible” to me, is not “available” to me, if you understand…

Okay. does it have numbers in the box?

Just A-Z

Hmm. Are we talking about the “Specify Volume Size” screen or the "Assign Drive Letter or Path " screen?

Letter Path

Okay

There should be three radio buttons.
Assign the following drive letter
Mount in the following Empty NTFS folder
Do Not Assign a drive letter or path.

Can you not select that last radio button?

That’s what I was saying

That is strange. Okay.

Select the first radio button and us Drive letter T (for thumb drive). then click next.

I’m going with X for my last name initial

Okay, That is fine. Just remember that.

At the “Format Partition Screen”

Use the defaults. If you want to label the volume, do it at this time, otherwise click next and let the format finish.

Once that is done your will be presented with a summary screen. Click finish.

You will now see in disk management that you have thumb drive with partition name X:\ that has the full (mostly) space of the thumb drive and it should be blue and not unallocated.

Much success

Now DL rufus??

Yes.

Let us know if you have trouble with that.

I should probably get walked through that, already not exactly sure. But I have it open and installed now

I keep selecting the image and getting a “no image selected” error in Rufus

lol

FML

Give me a seconds to get my bearings. I have not used rufus in a few years.
I will look for a good guide.

Here is the Guide to use.

can you verify that the size of the iso matched the estimated download size? it may be off by a few MiB depending on size. Windows uses 1000 bytes = 1KB versus 1024bytes = 1KiB

Ok so.

I DL’d Rufus on the Windows laptop. I then used it to mount the Ubuntu .iso there.

It took like an hour and didn’t mount.

I did it a second time. Took an hour didn’t have an error message but still definitely didn’t mount.

I’m about to try a third time but seems a bit pointless.

Like slamming your head into the wall to cure a headache…
