Problems Running Games On a TV

Ok, so I used to be able to play games on my TV from my desktop (I have it connected through an HDMI) and run games no problem. Now everytime I play a game on my TV my computer freezes. It runs perfectly fine on my monitor, but it is considerably smaller. The only thing I changed since I started having these problems is my monitor. Could that be the issue? In my computer I have an I5-3570k, EVGA 660 Ti, and 8 GB of RAM.

Does your entire pc freeze? or just the image on the display? like if you switched from your tv to your monitor without powering down would your PC still be functional?

I actually haven't tried to do that, but when it does freeze, it messes up the audio too, and it just buzzes or skips.

Ok, I just tried to turn off the TV after the computer froze and it didn't help, the buzzing continued and the monitor and everything else stayed frozen.

I could be off by a long shot but it might be your display drivers. My friend had a similar problem and his fix was to underclock his card. Try rolling back your NVIDIA drivers, that could be the issue.

Do you mean like using older drivers instead of the new ones? I was actually behind on the updates, so I figured I'd try updating them first, but that didn't seem to work. Also can you think of anything other than underclocking my card?

have you tried setting you tv as the main monitor when you play games?

Yes, it already is my main monitor.
