My pc has been having this problem since the 3rd of this month. It turns off without a warning. It has happened about 12 times. 5 times today, doesn't matter what i'm doing, playing a game, watching video or going to get some water 2min after turning it on . When this happens for some reason i can not turn it back on or reset. To turn is back on i have to unplug the power cord from the wall and plug it back in. Not sure what the problem could be. Had this pc for a 1yr now.
pc specs:
motherboard Gigabyte AMD FM2+ GA-F2A68HM-H
cpu: AMD Athlon X4 860K
graphics card: XFX RADEON R7 260X
psu: NZXT hale90 had power supply from a previous build that i had to sell
ram: 2x2 don't remember the brand
The first thing, that comes to mi mind is the power supply. If you can get a power supply from a friend for an hour or whatever, try that. My guess is, something in the PSU is going bad and randomly breaks down and this is when it turns off. And you must disconnect it from the wall, because the current and power, stored in the PSU's capacitors is keeping it down.
Try out another PSU if possible. Doesn't matter, even 350W will do the trick...
Yeah, first thing to try is the PSU as psycho says.
I would use the rocker switch on the back of the PSU when it turns off and won't turn on. I would also double check that stuff are seated correctly, like the power plugs into the MB etc. Check if the PSU is getting hot, could mean it has a problem. Wouldn't hurt to check that it is getting airflow.
the rgb lighting on my keyboard and my head set remain on when this happens. Ill try another psu later.
Set the BIOS to defaults and use the system as usual and report back
I usually try to unplug everything but the bare minimum when troubleshooting. Only have keyboard, mouse and screen connected (and power ofc). Many a time various USB devices can cause problem. Backfeeding USB can cause many weird problems, I have had comps that wouldn't turn off thanks to it pulling as much current as it could through a small PSU for a USB thing.
My pc does have good air flow so that a ain't a problem. ill barrow a psu later and see if that a problem.
i already have it in default. i haven't gone into the BIOS at all since i got.
when it happens again can you note the time it happend and if you are on windows can you lanunch event viewer from control panel and go to Windows Logs then System, and look for any "Critical" and "Error" Events around the time it happend and copy and paste the error messages?
yea. i check right now i saw 1 critical and 3 errors about the time my pc turned off on its own today.
