Maybe someone can shed some light on this. I got my O2+ODAC last week and have been getting dirty and distorted audio with it.
My primary headphones are the 600 ohm dt880s and I also tried my old ath-m50s with it as well. Getting dirty audio with both. I did make sure to change the quality to 24/96khz. I've tried plugging the dac into different usb ports. When I plug the headphones into my mobo I have crystal clear audio. I
I also tested it on my friend's pc and had pretty much the exact same results. Dirty audio and much better audio quality with onboard. I want to point out that his mobo is 3 years older than mine so the onboard audio isn't as good as mine but it still sounded much better than the odac. Also note that both our mobo's are Asus. Almost forgot to note that I'm using 320kbps music and FLAC
Here's what concerns me. I sent it back to mayflower and got an email from them saying they've tested it on their equipment and there's no problems with the amp or the dac. They're sending me a new one but said there will probably be no difference. I'm really at a loss for words.
I also have 600 Ohm DT-880s with my O2+ODAC. No problems at all. The only thing I can think of that could be different is the volume level maybe? Mayflower Electronics says you should put your PC volume level to 80% while using the O2+ODAC. Also, make sure you don't have the gain button pushed in. Other than that, I suppose there's a slight chance BOTH of your headphones are somehow the problem? That seems fairly unlikely though. I definitely don't know enough about audio, but I thought I would comment considering I have the same setup as you without issue.
Yea I tried it with the source volume between 50-80% and no difference at all. It's weird though in that one video with logan and tyler (the one about audio myths) with the ODAC they say to have the source volume at 100%.
Yeah that was just a mistake. I even emailed Tyler and asked him, he confirmed 80%. That's really strange though. I can't think of any other reason for it. Hopefully the new one just magically works without explanation.
I hope so too haha, maybe it was something stupid like the power or usb cable
I am guessing either a bad component or shoddy soldering.
