Problem with a freshly build PC

Hey guys, this weekend I've build myself a fairly new PC... used this and that from my old PC and got a thing or two second hand... But I think my problem is GPU drivers OR HDD
So the build I've bought myself a new AMD Athlon 860k, second hand Gigabyte G1.Sniper A88X (it came with A4-4000 and this saved my life) and 4gigs 2x2 (I had to buy something quickly) Kingston HyperX Genesis green.. from my old PC I used my GPU HD7870 2gb (also bought second hand but works perfectly ) aaaand WD Green 1tb Sata 2 (3gb/s)... My old PC was with Core 2 Quad Q9300 and HD4850 which I swapped with HD7870... So the problem... after building my PC and starting the downloading process of the games, the PC started freezing... Changing form program to program was just a nightmare.. waiting for half a minute to change from skype to google chrome... So... my first guess was eighter the RAM or the HDD and HD Tune scanned and said the drive was OK... so I let memtest to scan overnight and after 11 hours and 11 Passes with no errors I got a little bit desperate... And today I bought The Witcher 2.. (I know a little bit late but Jesus Christ I was with q9300 this CPU wasn't doing the job of keeping games at 1080 with playable framerates)... And before starting the download the PC was running fine.. like there were no problems... then the game started downloading and the hell was unleashed again... My question is: Is it possible old HDD but doing fine with no errors to cause such problems ?

Sounds like the hard drive, try crystal disk info, might just not be reporting errors, try another one if you have one

check what mode your bios is in for the hard drive, might be the really old stuff

and try running only a single stick of RAM at a time

make sure the drivers are up to date and 4 gigs of memory on windows is pretty anemic. If its that dire you may want to just run to best buy or any place and pick up an 8 gig stick. Since it boots ok and isn't otherwise obviously a hdd issue I don't think thats the culprit. As @Streetguru said though it certainly wouldn't hurt.

yeah.. I would but... In my country (Bulgaria) prices are a little bit F*ucked up... And 8gigs is about a 100-120 bucks... money I cant waste right now...

So.. what should I watch out for in Crystal Disk ?

it'll just tell you how long it's been on and give you a general estimation of it's health

To my eyes it looks fine ? Right ?

Might be as simple as using a different sata port

or try crystal disk mark

I forgot to mention something about this HDD, this is a problem (sort of a problem...) that was and with the old PC. This thing just doesn't like IDE... when I run it in IDE mode It starts windows just when it is connecting the dots (Win 7) and then blue screen for 1 second and reboot... starting it in ACHI mode and runs without problem...

well then it's probably the hard drive, you could like buy a cheap SSD for the OS drive and keep the hard drive around just for storage, should probably replace it all together though and keep that drive just for back ups

Yeah... probably this is what I'm going to do.. A-Data SP550 120gb is at good price here... so.. oh well the 8gbs RAM will have to wait for now....

Yeah this definitley looks like a drive issues. Hmmm if your going to look at SSD's id suggest looking at an 850 evo. they are on sale now and they are EXtremely reliable drives. that and you can get a decent combo of a wd black with a 120 gb ssd for a very good price right now. Also you maybe able to save with some of the "upgrade" bundles on newegg LOL

Bulgaria man

I totally glanced over that fact. I appologize. Im not sure how to get decent tech parts there? any idea?

probably smuggling them in from a nearby country Italy is probably the best bet given it's distance

Thats probably the best bet. If he has too he can somehow get the parts from a person in or make a trip to Udine or Trieste. He can call it a "vacation" LOL... uhm I kinda wish tech sites like newegg had more of an international presence

(as you can see I have actually lived in europe)

I think there's like probably import issues, possibly law issues, and all that stuff, should just turn it into one big place called europe, I guess it's nearly like that though isn't it?

Almost theres still quite a bit of odd discontinuities here and there. Thats why i suggested the trip to Udine or Trieste LOL

Well buying from sites outside EU is double-edged sword... If you pass without someone paying too much attention at what they are shipping you have a great chance of buying something really cheap... but there are taxes and stuff and sometimes it can double the price... I haven't really looked into buying stuff outside of my country so.. Im not really sure...

That actually frequently occurs. I never understood half the EU's laws. Some of them just do not make any since but yup. How does a trip sound LOL?

Probably a "trip" is my best bet :D
