I just signed up for Private Internet Access VPN as I want the anonymity but of course even having it terminate only a couple states away adds a hundred or so ms to my ping. Is there any way I can choose to have certain programs NOT go through the VPN? Or should I just turn off the VPN when gaming?
I use PIA too and I just do it manually. I am not sure if there is a way to allow certain programs not to be affected, but I am lazy so I have not looked into it. I have set up PIA to start up and automatically connect when I turn my computer on. I also set it up so the icon is always showing in the notification area in the bottom right of windows 7 (what I use). You can just click on the little arrow pointing up on the bottom right, then click customize and set PIA to always show the icon. If I want to play dota or cs:go I just right click on the PIA icon and disconnect. Then when I am done I right click and enable. If you set a preferred access point, it will automatically connect to that. Otherwise you can choose whatever you want. It takes me a couple of seconds either way and is simpler than trying to set up some complex system of programs that are whitelisted and blacklisted. Then again that is just my point of view.
Yeah that might be the easiest thing to do, I had forgotten about setting the notifications to always show lol. Thanks for the tip!
