Prime95 Freeze

I recently build a AMD PC.  I went to start overclocking it and I noticed something strange.  If I take the Core Voltage off auto settings Prime95 freezes as soon as I start it.  I starting testing at 1.38v and went up to 1.44 and got to same result. This is at stock speeds too.  20X200Mhz for 4Ghz.  Any idea why it would do that?

I actually had a similar problem. I could run Prime95 for hours, do Cinebench and Furmark and what not, but everytime I fire up Unigine Valley the system just crashes. At stock as well as OC'd. Couldn't figure it out.

What happens when you try with stock speed and Voltage on Auto? What voltage does CPU-Z show?
Maybe reset all the Bios settings and try again. If it works start all over with your overclock. See how high you can get with the Auto setting and then take it from there by increasing the Vcore voltage slowly.
Remember to disable Turbo, the C6-State and APM in your Bios/UEFI.

Northbridge overclocking.

You can also do multiplier overclocking.

Then you just set a static cpu voltage, and then bump up the multiplier, instead of bus ratio.

Stock Speed With Turbo disabled (20X200).  All power saving and Visualization disabled...  CPU-Z showed my Core Voltage as 1.308 idle and 1.236 when I start Prime 95.

Now if i take the exact same config but take Voltage off Auto rules and set 1.3v prime 95 lockes up the PC as soon as I hit the start button.

Just a side note.  When the PC locks up I have to power it down completely to get it to restart.  If i push the reset button it wont boot back up.

Thanks, but i don't think I am going to get very far with either method if i can't set a voltage manually without locking up my system. :(

i have a similar issue with my M5A97 EVO R2.0 mobo, wenn i try multiplier overclocking. cant get higher then 4.5 ghz due normal multiplier overclocking. for my only the Northbridge overclocking works to 4.8Ghz

But yeah i dont know your settings offcourse

Figured it out.  Made some changes in Digi+ VRM.  I think it was drawing too much current and the board was turning off the CPU.  Testing stability at 4.6Ghz right now.  :)

Still having a rough time with this overclock.  When stress testing is seems stable as a rock.  Last night it ran Prime95 for 12 hours straight 0 Errors.  Temps around 65c on the socket.  But then randomly the PC will just lock up.  No BSOD, the screen just freezes and thats it.

Going to try swapping ram from my Z97 rig.  See if it fixes the issue.
