Preferred cases for water cooling?

How's it going all, I have a question. I am pretty sure I will end up with a custom loop at some point, and probably just a couple of AIO's for now, but was curious what cases everyone recommends for water cooling.

I have a non window Define R5 new in box on hand but not sure if I should swap it out for something else, or just try to track down a windowed side panel for it.

Thanks for the help

The R5 is a great case for water cooling. I wouldn't upgrade, but if you insist the Enthoo Pro would be great however it wouldn't really be an upgrade.

I was just curious because I could hear the silence purists in the background having a fit if I took the R5 and removed the panels up top and on the front that have the sound dampening to make room for the radiators to breathe :)

Wait... Don't remove the front panel... That defeats the R5s purpose lol. Bu yeah, the top covers should be fine to remove.

I'm gonna have two radiators to mount?

There should be enough space for one in the top and one at the front. You shouldn't need to remove the front panel. The R5 breathes sufficiently enough. The guy on Pauls Hardware fat 2 or 3 in it without having to do anything to the front panel.

So how does the front breathe with the panel on it? The vents on the side are sufficient?

Yeah the vents are fine. I have a Nepton 140Xl in the front of mine in push pull and opening the door only yielded one to two degrees but increased noise by 10-15db.

Ah gotcha thanks for the heads up.

I have an incoming 980 Ti Hybrid and need to decide on the AIO for the CPU stil.......

I would get a Swiftech H240-X if you plan to expand your loop in the future. It's the best of the best.

I'm debating trying the AIO first or going custom loop right off the bat lol.

I have been scouring reviews on the Kraken X61 and Corsair H100i GT but the reviews are very mixed and the Krakern CS isn't looking favorable lol.......

I was looking at the swiftech but it also has bad reviews floating out there so not really sure what to make of everything.

The only bad thing is you couldn't mount it in the front of the case due to the res. Besides that I myself haven't seen any bad reviews.

No biggie I think the GPU one would fit up front.

And if you did go for an AIO I would recommend the CM Nepton 280L

Over the Swiftech?

No. If you can't afford the Swiftech or aren't comfortable with a CLC. With a CLC I believe you do have to refill it once every half of a year something like that.

No biggie on that I'm mechanically inclined. Previous hobbies include wrenching on my own motorcycles.

I found the Paul's hardware videos on the R5 thanks, watching them now.

Without knowing I am somewhat copying him lol.

I decided to go black and white as well and ordered the MSI X99S SLI Krait today and been researching water cooling all day, might just slap everything together with the panels off so it can breathe while I sort out the water cooling we will see. But this is becoming a money pit in a hurry lol. Not unlike past hobbies LOL!

Las week I was putting together a modest Xeon 1231 build lol......

Now I'm here:

The Fractal Design Kelvin T12 is an AIO with great reviews but I don't see it for sale anywhere......?

I couldn't find it anywhere either. I think the CM Seidon series is expandable as well.

I found a review stating due to a current litigation battle Fractal Design has decided not to sell the Kelvin units in the states right now until the court makes a final decision:

So I need to find someone in the UK to buy a twin fan 240 setup to send over to me lol.........
