ok guys, i already purchased a silverstone strider plus 700w power supply which is 80+bronze rated.
only later i got some advice that its a piece of crap.
i just wanted to check and get some other opinions as so far only one person has told me this and id like to avoid having to spend another $150AUD on another power supply. will it do as a start up power supply, one that i can replace in say...6 months when i start thinking about upgrading my rig ? or is a danger to my system?
i really appreciate the help
They're decent enough units. Whoever told you its a crap unit:
- a) has nfi what they're talking about
- b) has had or known of someone who had one that was faulty (of which no manufacturer is immune to)
They're definitely one of the better units that we get here in oz (in saying that I hope you didnt pay $150 for it as they're <$100 from PCGG).

i got it for $129 from mwave. the dude pointed me towards a cooler master vsm 750w 80+ gold which is about $160 from most places i can find it. but that's awesome news about the strider plus, even if i just use it as a start up psu and upgrade later lol
ill check out that review. thanks for your help, really made my wallet so SO much happier
Its not that its a piece of crap its actualy ok but thay did skimp on some of the internal components such as the cheap chinese TEAPO capacitor's instead of good japanese caps.
You can find a full depth review for the unit here --> http://www.kitguru.net/components/power-supplies/zardon/silverstone-strider-plus-700w-review-sst-st70f-pb/
I don't think is 'dangerous' for your rig, it really has overvoltage and surge protections. Maybe it's not the cleanest power supply on the market, but there is almost no chance it will ever damage your hardware.
Its internal components are average, but not bad or anything. Don't worry.
as long as it can get the job done with a 4460 and a gtx 970 until i start upgrading then that's fine with me. that really is awesome news and a load off my mind, i can now put that extra cash into more important parts :D thanks everyone !
