Well, from my own personal stand point it is by far the best sub-genre of metal.
I'm very biased towards this because I almost exclusively listen to power metal, I think I put this down to attention to detail and the speed that power metal entails.
Power metal sucks.
i hate power metal, except i guess children of bodom could at times be considered power metal which is the greatest power metal i could think of
Power metal isn't bad at times.
Just tell me you don't like Dragonfags. Their terrible.

I only like a few bands... like Mercenary and ... Wuthering Heights... Brainstorm and Kuias are OK...
I can't get into the cheesy type of power metal.
I can't stand power metal. Only Children of Bodom if you can even consider some of their songs power metal like blooddrunk said, wearing a shirt of them atm \m/
I listened to more power metal back when I first got into the metal scene sense it was easier on the ears, but now I find it nearly impossible to tolerate. Not all power metal albums are bad though, Blind Guardian has put out a few good ones, and some of Kamelot's stuff is pretty decent. Gamma Ray is also fun to listen to when you're drunk.
Gamma.... To Repetitive.
I mean bands like Helloween, Blind Guardian, Alestorm, thats not to say some of the American stuff isn't good like Jag Panzer, Iced Earth etc.
Haha I listened to Alestorm a while ago.... That was some pretty epic stuff.
Saw them live in Aberdeen.
blarg
its just all so freaking cheesy
I like it that way.
lol well you have your fun, ill stick with necrophagist
They tour with vegans, come on.
power metal = not great and not greatest.
imo most of the power metal bands try to hard to incorporate a decent vocal melody and decent guitar riff together and it just comes off as sounding very cheesy. stick with the original and you cant go wrong.
Well pretty much all metal is cheesy (in the funny sense). I don't think theres really anyone out there who takes black metal seriously (and if there is you need to stop). Cheesy doesn't mean bad, it just means "im gonna have fun with this music despite the social norms considering it unacceptable"... which really is what the metal scene comes down to.
So you shouldn't dislike power metal bands because they're cheesy, you should dislike them because they are unoriginal and just do the same shit over and over again. Five albums about nothing but swords and dragons and kings isn't creative.
To quote an interview with the frontman for Slough Feg...
Interviewer: A lot of people laugh at metal, now and then. Most consider it second-rate music, inherently inferior. Is it?
Mike Scalzi: It’s no wonder that people laugh at metal. Metal is really fucking funny!!! It’s hilarious, and most of it is really terrible!!! Wake up!! Don’t you think it’s funny?!? I do!! I think it’s the funniest thing on the planet. If I didn’t, I don’t think I’d play it! Metal is the most entertaining art form in the world – and to me, if something doesn’t have any humor in it, it isn’t very entertaining. I don’t consider it second rate music at all. Obviously I think that metal is the best music in the world, but people who take themselves too seriously should not play metal, because metal is inherently funny – and you don’t have to try to make it funny. In fact bands that try to be funny usually fail. It’s when bands try to be serious that they’re the most funny. (Manowar??) Brocas Helm has the greatest sense of humor ever onstage, and off. Anyone who is a true performer incorporates humor into their act. I don’t try to be funny, I just write what I want to, and some of it comes out very funny. But I would never be in a joke band, or make a joke album, because that wouldn’t be so funny.
I can't beleive I forgot to post this before.
One of my favorite Power Metal bands:
