So I'm currently running a KFA2 GTX 670 (2 GB) and I'm thinking about my future upgrading options. With DX12 coming the idea of SLIing the 670 with another is looking more attractive.
My ideas so far:
Idea 1: Buy a 670 on ebay now, enjoy the benefits of SLI given VRAM stacking when available, buy a new graphics card in 2017 or 2018.
Idea 2: Carry on as is, buy a new card 2016.
Thoughts?
(Using a 600 W power supply, Gigabyte Z77X-UP4 TH)
Stick with your 670 until you can't find games playable with it any more, if you don't make it through to 2016, grab another 670. If you do, grab a new card... or wait longer if you can still handle it, save more and grab an even better card. That's what I'd do, anyway.
Wouldn't really want to go down the SLI route myself though, stuttering and the like... no thanks.
A new card. The 670 is + - a gtx 760 overclocked which is still a good performer in 1080p, but lacks power for greater resolutions due to it's 2gb VRAM. SLI is good, but you are still stuck with 1080p with no possibility to upgrade. The good thing with SLI now is that you don't really get anymore 'stuttering' and a 670 SLI would approx. equals a gtx 780, a very good performer even today.
I suggest you take a closer look at the gtx 970, a second hand r9 290x (stands between a gtx 970 and 980 in most benchmarks) or the new 3XX series from AMD. Sell your 670 or keep it for a livingroom PC!
I could not find a trustworthy source on the first 2 pages of google, so it's all hypothetical as of now. If this is true it really is a game changer, specially for budget PCs
