Post your Results from the Phoronix Test Suite v 5.8

As the other thread is using the benchmark Unigine Valley to benchmark hardware running under Linux, I thought it would be ideal to have people run a standard suite of tests and post their results.

PTS tests are reliable, detailed, and free. You can get the latest version of the suite from their WEBSITE as the one in the repos tends to be out of date.

For the first Suite, run the Complex System Test. This will give a baseline for all to compare from.
the suite includes an UE4 benchmark test suite as well as a Unigine one. There are many many suite to choose from.

Windows and Mac users can run the tests by downloading the PTS Desktop Live disc or by downloading the Generic Package and simply extract the generic package and then run phoronix-test-suite.bat from the extracted directory (of course, after installing PHP for Windows).

For those not aware,

Phoronix Test Suite is the most comprehensive testing and benchmarking platform available that provides an extensible framework for which new tests can be easily added. The software is designed to effectively carry out both qualitative and quantitative benchmarks in a clean, reproducible, and easy-to-use manner.

Originally developed for automated Linux testing, support to the Phoronix Test Suite has since been added for Apple OS X, Microsoft Windows, BSD, and Solaris operating systems, among other POSIX compliant platforms such as GNU Hurd. The Phoronix Test Suite consists of a lightweight processing core (pts-core) with each benchmark consisting of an XML-based profile and related resource scripts. The
process from the benchmark installation, to the actual benchmarking, to the parsing of important hardware and software components is heavily automated and completely repeatable, asking users only for confirmation of actions.

The Phoronix Test Suite interfaces with OpenBenchmarking.org as a collaborative web platform for the centralized storage of test results, sharing of test profiles and results, advanced analytical features, and other functionality. Phoromatic is an enterprise component to orchestrate test execution across multiple systems with remote management capabilities.

Nice thread. I'll run it when I have some time. On a side note, how much time the test suite takes to complete the Complex System Test?

That depends on the system but it runs about 5 tests so figure 15-30 minutes depending on the hardware.

Each test in the suite will be run 3 times to improve accuracy as well as provide a min/max/average result.

The complex system test includes five tests:
- Apache Benchmark for web page serving performance
- C-Ray for ray tracing performance
- RAMspeed (two different configurations) for memory performance
- PostMark for disk transaction performance.

What is the perform all test button? on linux

There isn't a "perform all test" button. There is the comprehensive system test option. Or, you can choose from a suite of tests. You can see the whole list of choices on the CLI menu. They do have a web-based GUI but only when you are running it on a server. It allows for remote execution of the tests.

I recommend the http://openbenchmarking.org/suites/pts webpage for your test suite profiles.

I suggest running the:

  • Computational Suite
  • CPU/Processor Suite
  • Cryptography Suite
  • Desktop Graphics Suite
  • Disk Test suite
  • Encoding Suite
  • Gaming suite
  • Linux System suite
  • Motherboard suite
  • Multi-core suite
  • OpenCL suite
  • Memory Suite
  • Networking suite

Those tests will thoroughly test hardware. I seriously do not think most of these hardware review sites do a thorough and complete job of testing the hardware. simply because they blatantly ignore the Phoronix Test Suite. they can run it from a Live USB or DVD of they don't want to install Linux.

The Next Test Suite to run and post is the Motherboard Suite followed by the CPU suite and the memory suite.

Run the Motherboard test with this command in the Linux Terminal client: phoronix-test-suite benchmark pts/motherboard
The Motherboard suite consists of the following tests:

  • OpenArena
  • Lightsmark
  • Padman
  • Network-loopback
  • Apache
  • PGBench
  • OpenSSL
  • C-Ray
  • Compress-7zip
  • Compress-lzma
  • FFMPEG
  • x264
  • Himeno
  • TTSiod-renderer
  • Graphics-Magick
  • Postmark
  • Unpack-Linux

The CPU Test suite can be run with the following command phoronix-test-suite benchmark pts/cpu and consists of the following tests:

  • Padman
  • ETQW-demo
  • Graphics-Magick
  • John-the-ripper
  • Ttsoid-renderer
  • Compress-PBZip2
  • Compress-7zip
  • Encode-MP3
  • Encode-FLAC
  • x264
  • FFMPEG
  • OpenSSL
  • GCrypt
  • Himeno
  • PGBench
  • Apache
  • C-Ray
  • POVRay
  • Samllpt
  • Tachyon
  • Crafty
  • TSCP
  • MAFFT
  • NPB
  • Stream

The Memory Suite can be run with the following command phoronix-test-suite benchmark pts/memory and consists of the following tests:

  • RAMSpeed
  • Stream
  • CacheBench

Here are my results from the Motherboard suite:

See how your system compares using the Phoronix Test Suite. It's as easy as running the phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1509271-KRDU-KRDUCKY66 command.
