Possibly noob questions

just wondering what the big disadvantages of running crossfire in 8x8x instead of 16x16x other than speed and how much of a difference?

another thing is ...i know the speed gets dropped to the lowest if you pair a 1gb card with 512mb..but if there both 1gb's except its a 4870 with a 4850,what else gets cut down?

as for the 8x and 8x compared to 16x w/ 16x it won't be much, unless it is a dual GPU card. Almost all single GPU card use just above 8x (AGP slot) max speed, but still, there is a small performance loss in very fast cards (4870+ or GTX280+)

well as of now x8 or x16 dosent make a difference (as long as its 2.0) there is not a card that has needed more than x8 so as of now it affects no cards.

and the second question the 4870 gets dropped lower i am not sure though i never had crossfire dont know my ati like my nvidia

there isnt a drop in 4870's but there is in 4890's and 4870X2's

what you said was true back when the 8800Ultra was the best card on the market.
