Possibly a silly question

A friend of mine lives in an apartment with a free wifi connection, but its range is quite dismal. He must go to the public computer room with his desktop(no laptop, lawl) and monitor in order to get a connection. He is against buying a notebook, mainly because he is weird.

Yet I am sure there is something that one could buy or even build that would be easier for his computer to access and thereafter have the capablity of having a stronger signal  to reach the internet in the other public computer room.

 

Maybe this is a stupid question to ask, and there is an obvious answer; I've always been pretty terrible with networking.

look into directional antennas

Couldnt the time and money spent trying to get a better connection be used to pay an internet connection?

It's different when you're poor. I have to buy it because he simply can't afford any type of private internet connection; I can, but to a very limited degree—very limited.

 

I'll see what I can find about directional antennas, though. That sounds interesting.

This is probally a stupid answer, but couldnt he just buy a range extender or something along those lines?
