Hey there,
So, I was curious while defragging my HDD in Defraggler and I decided to analyze my boot drive (SSD). Now I am completely aware that defragging an SSD is bad news and will dramatically degrade their life span. But with it having ~58% fragmented files, is there a way to clear these up? Is a defrag worth it? or do I just leave these fragmented files to hang out and chill?
Thanks.
NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DEFRAG AN SSD! It will drastically reduce the life of the SSD. Don't worry about defragging
Just leave the files to hang out. Check this out if you want to know more about why not to defrag an SSD: http://www.quora.com/Solid-State-Drives/Why-dont-you-have-to-defragment-a-Solid-State-Drive
SSD's never need to be defragged, in fact, it is detrimental to the life of the drive. and defragging doesn't even help that much with hdds unless the fragmenting is at isane levels
You don't have to worry about defragging. The main reason it's a performance burden is because the hdd head has to junp around a lot. Ssd's do not have that problem.
Sweet, thanks for the replies, fellows!
It really isn't that big of a deal anymore, but it isn't recommended. Maybe once every few months just to consolidate.
I've never defragged my SSD, yeah i dont think it atters since its a fash memmory.
Do not do it.
