I’ve been extremely frustrated today since I’ve had a few problems with my system as I had to get a new motherboard to replace my Asrock X670e Taichi since it was having issues detecting ssds and I was within the return window from the store so I decided to go with an ASUS X670e Crosshair Hero. It was all well and good until I decided to update the AMD Chipset Drivers from AMD’s website (version 4.11.15.342) and that’s when the following happened. Upon reboot my main DisplayPort decided it didn’t want to give any signal when inside windows on my Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 4090, and if both of my monitors were connected even if it was “first” it would just roll over to my 2nd display when POSTing. When my 2nd monitor was unplugged, my primary monitor would actually work, but only in POST, and after booting to Windows it would just turn off and say no signal. I’ve tried a variety of different things that I thought it could be and I want to share it with you guys in hopes I can maybe find a solution for this weird behavior.
• Plugging into different ports on the GPU, this actually worked and I can use both monitors on DisplayPorts 2 and 3, but port 1 remains acting extremely weird.
• Using different DisplayPort cables
• DDUing the Nvidia driver and reinstalling fresh
• Uninstalling the chipset driver and reinstalling it from ASUS’ website under the section for my motherboard
• Clearing the CMOS
• Reflashing the BIOS
• I had my 12TB external HDD plugged in via USB-C on one of the thunderbolt ports on the back and I had thought that maybe for some reason the motherboard was trying to display out on this and maybe it was interfering with the GPU so I unplugged that as well to no avail.
• Reseating the GPU, this is a pain in the ass since everything is watercooled, but it didn’t do anything.
• Booting into other things like a USB with Manjaro, Ubuntu and even the windows installer and the port will only display when its in the selection screen/verbose for Manjaro and Ubuntu, but it wouldn’t work when actually loaded into those operating systems as well much like windows.
If there are any suggestions you guys have for me to try and figure out what in the hell is going on with it then I’m all ears as I couldn’t possibly be more agitated from this. Although I’m extremely tired and possibly not thinking straight I will try my best to clarify any questions about my computer and I just hope I can find a solution that hopefully isn’t an RMA for the GPU.
