Friendly correction here. M1 is not PowerPC but both M1 and PowerPC are RISC ISAs. PowerPC is an IBM Power ™ RISC architecture and M1 is ARM. It’s an important distinction because IBMs Power architecture has been languishing in terms of performance since the 90s.

I guess I worded it weirdly. What I meant was the transition of chipset used by Apple.

(older gen) → PowerPC → x86 → M1

You mean “if you don’t pay us, we’ll deliberately disable your hardware completely so you cannot use it until you start paying us. With a hefty penalty for not paying in the first place, of course:roll_eyes:

Remember HP managing decline of Ink printers for decades?

Windows have entered this stage long time ago and this is just another part of it. The main argument to learn Linux as a user is that we need to realize the ship is no longer worth years of user training as it will inevitable change.
