Hashcat is the fastest hashcracking tool around since it displaced john the ripper a few years ago. The author of hashcat Jens Steube put a lot of effort in utilizing GPUs to the most with his gpgpu version oclhashcat that uses OpenCL for ATI and Cuda for NVidia. The result of benchmarking cards with this tool would be rather synthetic compared to most common game or 3D stuff but i know for a fact that there are some teksyndicate viewers out there like me that are using hashcat.
Another example would be to benchmark Haswell. I bought one a week ago and was wondering if the new AVX support would boost certain algorithm. (see http://hashcat.net/forum/thread-2402.html)
