I think this might open a can of worms but what do you think about using Unraid Vs Freenas?
If you can afford Unraid then try it, see which you prefer. If you are cheap, then Freenas all the things.
Hi I think I have a plan now, thanks for your help.
I am going to get 3x4gb drives and use Unraid I will then add another disk probably 8tb later in the year as the second parity disk. This is the cheapest upfront way to get a server up and running at about £350.
I will stick with the hardware I have for now and get the cheapest Unraid license until I add some more disks.
