Planning PC Upgrade

Hi everyone! This is my first post. As the title says I'm planning to upgrade my PC. At the moment I'm working on 2012 Lenovo Y400 (Specs of it below). My budget is around $1200 - $2000.

Lenovo Y400 Specs

CPU: i7-3630QM @ 2.40GHz
RAM: 6 GB
GPU: GTX750M 2GB

I will do a lot of Graphic Design, Video Editing, 3D Modeling and some Gaming (League of Legends, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2...). I was thinking to go with AMD for CPU, buying a FX-8350. And Nvidia for GPU, buying a GTX960/970. I know this build will beat my actual machine, but I want to make sure that will last 1 o 2 years.

I'll appreciate your help.

I'd probably go with a intel xeon build or a x99 platform, 32gb ram or more. Gpu, might be better to go with AMD. Believe that the AMD does better in productivity than normal Nvidia GPUs.

Please, correct me if i'm wrong

Here is what I put together, link to the parts list. The case can be switched out for what ever you want, m.2 ssd is unnecessary, but will be nice, I went with the 290x because it is such a good deal.

Nice build. One thing I didn't mention is that I'm based in México. I did a research about stores and what is available in here. The closest I got was:

Build Available In México $1,989.37 USD ($30,080 MXN)

  • CPU I7 4790K 4.0 GHZ
  • MOBO ASUS Z97-DELUXE
  • KINGSTON HYPERX PREDATOR 16GB 1866MHZ
  • GPU STRIX GTX970 4GD5
  • PSU CORSAIR CX750M 750W
  • CASE CORSAIR GRAPHITE 780T BLACK

Note: For the GPU I could go for a ATI ASUS R9 290X 4GB ($7,180.00 MXN) vs STRIX GTX970 4GD5 ($6,312.00 MXN). The difference in dollars is $57.4. Which one I should go?

I know that everybody in here will tell me "Dude, buy the stuff in US and look for deals". Yeah that sounds great but I got to pay Customs and Tax in order to have the parts with me. For example your $1897.73USD build will cost me $2711.04USD buying in US and bringing the parts to my country. Talking in Mexico's currency is $40,991.89 MXN.

Do you think the "Build Available in México" is good?

Probably the 970 it is cheaper and from what I have heard it is better.
