Hi All,
I’m planning to build a compute cluster using Bright’s Easy8 (version 9.2) and the following nodes:
- A head node with a 4x1Gig NIC as my head node (have not purchased yet but thinking of using SuperServer E200-9A)
- A compute node with 2 x Xeon E52660 v2 and 128GB memory (old hardware I’ve found around)
- Another compute node with Threadripper Pro 3995wx, 256GB Memory, and an RTX3090 (In process of getting parts)
The purpose of the cluster is to allow for easy SLURM and Jupyterhub integration for a group of 10ish people to run their Python code (a mixture of ML and mathematical modeling).
I was drawn to Easy8 for a few reasons:
- Bright has recently added a nifty Jupyterhub integration that is perfect for our use case
- Easy web-based administration for people without network administration experience
- Flexibility to add cloud nodes in the future (at the cost of moving towards paying for the license if we pass 8 nodes in the cluster)
Has anyone had experience setting up clusters like this? Is there an easier way to securely deploy a cluster as such? Any recommendation is appreciated!
