Piledriver vs. Intel

Hey guys, I was wondering about how the FX-8320 stacks up to Intel CPUs of the $200 and below price range. I am not willing to pay more than $200, and 180 is as high as I'd like to go. Also, I'll be doing some mild overclocking, but nothing much.

I want the computer to be able to run up-to-date software/games for several years. I've heard that Intel is just better than AMD in every way, but these reviews seem to mainly be by people who went and paid insane amounts for bulldozer, then got mad when it didn't make them a sandwich. Help with this would be appreciated.

Breakdown time (in general):

Intel:

Pros - Single core performance is better, which means its going to be better for gaming. Intel uses less power then its competitors. Better built in abilities with some of their chipsets (Smart response tech, etc etc). Less likely to bottleneck under bigger graphics cards. Most likely wont go bankrupt.

Cons - Only "K" series are unlocked processors. More expensive then competitors.

AMD:

Pros - Price to performance is great. Topline desktop CPU is less than 220 bucks. All the FX processors are unlocked and overclock like crazy. Eight core machines are great for gaming and rendering programs. Leader in intergrated graphics (only with APU line). Newest CPU sockets natively support older CPU's. Overall platform for computer will cost way less than Intel.

Cons - Not as fast Intel. Most motherboards haven't been updated to support FX Vishera (8320's etc) out of the box (look for Rev 2.0 or V2 boards for native support).

Thanks! Super helpful, I might end up looking for some cheap 2570Ks, or else get better cooling for overclocking AMD.

What do you intend to do with your setup?

ERROR: As of now, 4 cores is the max a game will use, so eight cores is completely unnecessary. Gaming is for single threaded performance, which is Intel's thing
