Physics degree with IT

This is one for @Wendell. I used to work as front line support for an IT helpdesk at a local college. Now I'm studying physics and I'm wondering if there's any particular field in IT that would be more suited to the skills I'm learning. If I recall correctly you did Physics, so I figured you would have firsthand experience to comment on this. I'm only second year at the moment so I don't have any focused skills yet, I'm just exploring my options at this point.

Edit: I'm also open to replies from anyone who has input.

You might find this interesting to read.

I should probably mention that I'm in the UK. I'm studying at the Open University doing a course in Natural Science (which offers a mix of biology, chemistry, physics, earth science and climate science.) It's a customisable degree within those fields and mine is mainly in Physics.
