Phones and Carriers

According to some news articles I've just read, it seems that the Nexus 5 will not work on Verizon networks.

I read that this wasn't an issue with hardware on the nexus 5.

Why is it that some phones don't work on a carrier's network if it is not a hardware issue? Shouldn't every phone with the appropriate hardware be able to work on every network as long as you put in the right sim card?

Verizon and Sprint run on the CDMA networks whereas AT&T and T-Mobile run on the GSM networks. Edit: It does have CDMA bands, it just doesn't have Verizon's CDMA bands. Verizon doesn't seem to be fond of the Nexus line.

A great victory for GSM has been had!

I opened this thread hopping to find a discussion about how to carry phones around now that they seem to be getting bigger and bigger.

Lies.

nexus 5 supported bands:

  • North America:
  • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
  • CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10
  • WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19

Welcome to america. Companies want to lose money over stuff people like, and make money over stuff people don't like...
