Phone Recovery

Hey guys!

So a friend of mine has an old LG Nexus 5x that doesn't work anymore. Any way, I have it and need some help fixing the thing.

The issue:
So the issue is that on battery power, the device does nothing. It doesn't power on, register buttons, and the like. However on wall power the screen will flash a battery icon and turn off again, with a red LED indicator and repeat. Turning the device on by holding power on and down volume presents the glorious bootloader. Once here, I can select all the options for Starting Android, Restarting the Bootloader, Recovery Mode, and Power Off. I can select all of these with the volume buttons just fine, and enter with the power just fine like it should, however here is the second issue. When I select the option, it'll start it, but then power off and restart the battery icon and loop. I can still repeat the process afterwards, but the result doesn't change.

After a crap tonne of research, everyone says it is a suck power button and using the super technical method of hitting it really hard solves it. Suffice to say, this doesn't seem to work. I have even gone as far as to take the entire phone apart. I also do not believe that it is a stuck power button, due to the fact that whenever I am in the bootloader not only does it not select anything by itself from a 'stuck power button' but also seems to work exactly fine.

Now the reason I think that this is still recoverable is that it works on the bootloader just fine so I am trying to understand why it won't boot into Android. Maybe its just some super easy stupid fix and if one of you very smart people on this place figures it out, that'd be great guys.

Thanks a bunch!

What does the batery indicator say the battery is at?

Try going into the bootloader and selecting power off from the boot loader. Disconnect the charger and reconnect, then leave it to charge for an hour.

Sorry for the long reply.

I don't know what indicator you mean, however I did as you said and nothing has changed as of yet

Thanks for the help!

format cache partition
format user data

find the LG = of samsungs odin software
put the phone into its download mode
and use LG's version of odin to flash the "stock rom" onto your phone
which should let it get past your looping bootloader issue

I have a nexus 5 usually if it has a red flashing light it means the battery is less than an acceptable voltage for the phone basically the phone thinks you have less the 0% of power if the battery is dead you should be able to run it of a 1A or 2A charger into to keep it running but if the battery is fired it may only last a short time or die as soon as external power is lost

The nexus line of devices is controlled by google and built by other company's like LG so you can use the android sdk tools (adb and fastboot) but these require the phone to either have usb debugging enabled or an unlocked bootloader which means unless the boot loader is already unlocked it will wipe your device when you are unlocking it to prevent sideloading unauthosized software or operating systems to steal the users data

First of all think about what could of caused the problem if it was near a bath or lots of moisture try turning it off and slowly heating it with a hair dryer or in a warm room for a while and check for any damage to the connections inside the phone such as on the battery or around the board. Usually when my Nexus 5 glitches out I turn it off a warm it up a bit and if that doesn't work I try pressing the phone tightly together with my hands to make sure the screen has a good connection because my screen is cracked also has the phone got an unlocked bootloader if so then you could flash something like twrp or clockworld mod and use that to make an exact backup of the phone and you could then clone it onto another Nexus 5. The backups in TWRP allow you to clone everything including the OS, kernel and userdata so as long as you can get a backup and another Nexus 5x it is almost impossible to tell the different

Hello!

Thanks for the reply! In terms of re flashing the phone, I do not as of yet have a type c to type a cable, (Getting one soon though) and the phone is completely stock, so no unlocked bootloaders, rooting, etc. I cannot as of now, but as soon as I get home, I will try your method of heating the phone. Thanks!

no problem it worked for me hopefully it works for you
