Phenom II X6

Yes, the new AMD Phenom chips sporting 6 cores have been released, and might I add that they're pretty cheap for what they can do!

Hexacore FTW

... and it greatly outperforms 980X and cost 1/3 of that Intel piece of shit!

Now we just need some SLI-ready AM3 boards.

Seems like a pretty good deal for on a budget workstations.as far as comparisons to the i7 980x, this pretty much sums it up."Now a lot of you would probably be comparing today's tested processors to the six-core 980 Extreme from Intel, in a way that makes sense both being six-core CPUs, but the reality is simple, the Phenom II X6 processors are not even close performance wise. Even overclocked at 4.1 GHz an AMD Phenom II X6 processors can't beat the 980X at it's default clocks and that's a testimony on how strong the Intel Nehamlem/ Gulftown architecture is. The fact remains that clock for clock, and core for core performance definitely is a win for Intel's Core i7/i5 series, but you pay for it big-time, as simple as that."

^fact

however, these x6's destroy at gaming.

They seem like a great alternative to Core i7 930/920/860. May have came a bit too late though.

WTF I love micro center. 200!? Nice one AMD.

Old news.. It's also pretty cheap, only $300.

IDK... The review that tom's hardware did didn't really indicate so...http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-phenom-ii-x6-1090t-890fx,2613.html

toms hardware when it comes to amd... they're fucking hugely biased intel. hardware canucks and like 6 other review sites all had the high end x6 beating the i7 975 in most tests, even gaming, and it oc's very well... to 3.8 ghz on stock one site said.

Hmm... Core i7s has Hyper Threads as backup. Then it's a 12 "core" monster up against AMD's hexacore.

Juuust like ye 'ol Phenom II x4 vs. Core i7...

trolll it was only out yesterday. the black edition is 300. theres gonna be another one in q4 the 1095t.

sure, but per core amd destroys, and no games use more than 4 threads as is. Amd needs a new platform after theyre done with the x6's... am4 or whatever

per core amd loses, if they destroyed in per core performance they would be at the top of every category of processor.its more so the catagory of what you get per dollar that amd destroys in. for a modern and competitive processor amd is charging what.. 30-40 dollars per core

Napoleon Total War and Wolfenstein use 6 cores but they don't justify the purchase of a 6core monster cuz they're mediocre games.

Im getting the new AMD 6 core next week for 279.00 with the new asus crosshair 4 formula motherboard. My old system will be for sale the AMD 965 with the crosshair 3 formula motherboardÂ

The thing about AM3/AM2+, is that the memory controller is on the CPU die. So AMD doesn't really need a new platform to upgrade memory channels, and PCIe lanes. All it takes is an updated NorthBridge controller for PCIe, and a new CPU for triple or quad channel memory. They need K11 architecture.
