Phenom ii x4 965 temp? is it too hot?

sitting at idle in the BIOS, its at 45 Celc. I'm scared to death what it'll get to if i try to run warcraft or anything. Now, the case only has one fan, which is going to be remedied in the next few days because i just ordered 4 off of Newegg. Is this normal? should I remount the heatsink? which is a CoolerMaster Hyper 212. thanks for your input

I literally just had the same prob with that CPU, i sent it back because those temps were not flying with me. Also i was using the stock cooler and would be a like 44 on idle.

What compound are you using? Some of those compounds supposedly have cure times.

I really don't pay much attention to those "cure times," but i have noticed a 5~7c temperature drop after about a month of use.

I only use IC Diamond btw..

I am using the stock thermal compund that I received with the after-market heatsink. the container says nothing about a cure time.

there is only 1 fan in the case, besides the fan on the heatsink. so that would make 2. would lack of airflow be the culprit? already ordered more fans, if that doesn't work I will be sending the CPU back to Newegg.

check out the fx-4100 idle temps- stock fan, just chrome and a few other things open

& people are saying this cpu is buggy & recommending the phenom II all the way....what?

this makes me a sad panda. hopefully its just an airflow problem, we'll see if the extra fans help it any.

Yes, well, one of the known bugs is the unreliable temperature readouts... not kidding!

The FX4100 is two modules with each two cores that share resources, while the Phenom II X4 is 4 full featured cores...

If you have unleashing mode and/or ACC enabled in the bios, it won't read right in windows

i am fully aware that the fx-4100 gets false readings with some third party programs

and i realize its not the same for everyone, but basically i got rid of any program giving me the wrong temps

so these are the correct readings and basically what my bios is giving as well

its underclocked with cool n quiet and epu

also id like to add it is a rather frosty morning

I doubt adding more fans will help unless your whole case is that hot. Id play something and keep an eye on the temp not letting it get over 60. Did you watch logans vid on thermal paste? helped me a bunch. is your heatsink that hot too? could just be faulty readings as well, temperature probes ftw.

some mobo+ cpu combos just get hotter than others

if you have a mobo that runs really warm it will affect the cpu

if i was you id re apply that thermal paste before going into dispair hehe especially after watching that vid on intel, when you buy a $300 processor you expect the manufacturer to not skimp out on quality and what is probably the cheapest part of the manufacturing process

$300 worth of processor and 5c worth of paste, wtf. if it is indeed paste and not some type of adhesive concrete

well those temps are wrong anless your room is 15c use speed fan to show your real temp FX chips often give mixed readings often showing single core or module temps and not the chip temp
