Hey everyone - I have looked around and have not been able to get this working. I bough 3 of the Syba SD-PEX24041 cards which are dual gigabit nics, each being an RTL8111H, with an Asmedia ASM1182e PCIe switch onboard. I did NOT realize that they wouldn’t be comaptible since FreeBSD shows compatibility with the 8111 and I am not sure if the problem is the -H variant of the Realtek chip or the Asmedia controller or both. These are made for PCIe 2.0 x1 slots and I have enough in my motherboard (an MSI Z170 Pro-VDH with an i3 7100) so that I COULD take this from having 1 dual intel card and 3 single gig cards (not sure the models of hand) with an onboard NIC, so a total of 1 WAN and 5 LAN/OPT ports to a total of 1 WAN and 8 LAN/OPT ports IF they worked but I can NOT for the life of me get them to work. I have tried drivers posted online for FreeBSD.
Does anyone know this system or this hardware well enough to know if I should give up or if there is a workaround for this?
I REALIZE that I should have gone Intel Pro Gig cards but heres the thing - in Istanbui where I live finding server stuff is SUPER hard so I occassionally just get computer parts shipped over and its a HUGE hassle due to customs so while I SHOULD HAVE gone with Intel from the get, i didn’t…and I’m hoping that the answer is not just wait til someone visits me because with this virus who KNOWS how long that will be…
Thoughts?
Hi,
did you get the RTL8111H to work with pfsense?
I am about to buy an additional NIC to my setup that can only accept a mini pcie half size extention card. The model on my scope has a RTL8111H chip on it. Unfortunately I could not find any mini pcie half size nic with an intel chip.
Any Info is much appreciated.
Thanks.
Sorry for the late, late reply, I haven’t been on here in a while, so much happening with covid stuff. Anyways no, I haven’t gotten these things to work at all and I’m really disappointed in that. It’s too bad but, I think that I will have to just scrap these three brand new ones that I have and buy Intel Pro/1000 dual and quad gigiabit cards which is fine its just problematic where I live. Short answer though no, sorry. I haven’t been able to get them working.
