Pfsense quad port nic

I just installed pfsense and I added a quad port nic so that I could connect all of the devices in my house. The problem that I have run into is that I’m not sure how to configure all of the interfaces to act like a normal router i.e. a switch. Is bridging really the only way to go?

Log into the Web Interface.
Up top go to Interface then Assign.
From there you will assign each port an IP Address.

The last time I did that, the connections became very flaky...

Flaky how? Slow? Or doesn't work?

My router has three ports.
One to a switch and other to my access point.
It works.

the computers connected to each port would go to certain sites but not others.

You might have to set a Firewall rule.

How do I configure the ipv6? Just give it a random address?

Oh no.
UHH in your firewall rules there should be a section that says address family.
From there you can choose IPv4 or IPv6

why not ipv4+ipv6?

oh of course you can.
I just wasn't sure if you wanted both.

I normally just use IPv4 but that is just a personal preference.

just to give you an idea of what my basic rules look like

I have applied the rules to all of the interfaces but they still don't supply an internet connection. I feel like I may be missing some configurations.

Yea it won't.
You have OPT3 as 195.168.1.6
Which will not work.

Also under your General Configuration it looks like you have it set at a /32
Which also will not work.

Try changing OPT1 to a different subnet. Maybe a /24?

And OPT3 needs to a different IP.
Probably a completely different subnet.

all /24 okay?

Yup totally ok.
Unless you are going to have more then 254 hosts on each subnet then change it.

If not then then you're fine.

Question?
Do you have these four ports connected to the same switch, different switches, or servers?

I'm just curious on to what your set up is.

Well, this is a home network so theres a 4 port nic in the router going out to 3 computers and an access point. (the onboard nic is the wan) there are no switches in the mix.

OHhhh
Honest, I'd get a Switch.
Then connect your hosts to the switch.
And enable DHCP on that port the switch is connected to.

The access point connect to a pfSense port.
Disable DHCP on the access point (that's if it has that feature)
And enable DHCP on that port.

BUT, if that works for you and if that is all you need then stay with that.

Also, is everything working?

Thanks for the tip but the opt ports are not working and I wish I could get a switch but this is all I have for now.

Ahh ok hmm.

Check your firewall rules.
Make it look similar to what I have.

Also the only interface that you need to have DHCPv6 configured on is your WAN port.

The ones connected to your Host devices just have IPv4 Static and IPv6 None.

Do you have DHCP running on the OPT1-3 ports??

I have that config for my wan but the opt(s) are using ipv6 addresses and dhcpv6
