Pfsense(Logan or Quain)

Hello Logan or Qain. I have watched your show since the beginning, and I recently watched your pFsense video. I am interested in making my own custom router/firewall with pfsense and have a few questions.

1. How many ethernet cards does it need? I also planning on adding in a wireless adapter like you did. Do you have any recommendations?

2. How should I build the system? I was first thinking about building it in something like the raspberry pi, but i think it might be too small. Im not sure about its expandability. Would it just be easy to find a small form factor PC like you guys did in the video?

Thanks,

Rock On!!! You guys are Awesome!!!

You need at least two network cards, one for LAN and one for WAN. If you want to have multiple WAN or LANs then you would need additional cards. So one network interface per network. You would then connect it to a switch to share the connection.

I've heard that wireless is a bit hit or miss on pfsense, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't support 802.11n adapters, you're probably better off just using an access point or router for the wireless.

I'm pretty sure pfsense only works on x86 so you wouldn't be able to install it on a raspberry pi, plus it probably wouldn't be powerful enough to handle any decent speed. Check out the pfsense hardware page, it will give you an idea about what sort of specs you'll need and what hardware is compatible with it. http://www.pfsense.org/hardware/index.html
