I'm trying to help a guy in Spiceworks community named Tufnel. I just created an account there for my business TPCS ( Tyson PC Services) under my name, Raymond Tyson.
This question involves the ability to SPLIT internet speeds in three connections from modem to three different routers. Qain the Insane and Wendell the Wise, this question is probably for either one or both of you since you're BOSS in this category.
Does anyone know if Pfsense queues up the packets once the rate limit is hit like with Cisco commercial grade router does? Or does it simply drop the excess packets? Unfortunately this will be at a site where there are users 24/7 but not IT staff (think hotel) so I'd like to keep moving parts as minimal as possible...not sure if that's possible with pfsense.
Honestly this question is over my head. However, I figured since Qain and Wendell are BOTH VERY networking-savvy, this may be a no-brainer for either one of you, I can learn something at the same time, and establish some credibility in that community.
I always enjoy your videos ( I can see Logan the Beard stroking his beard while reading this saying in Senator Palpatine's accent.." goooooood ...GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD :p ). Thanks everyone.
"[...] SPLIT internet speeds in three connections from modem to three different routers." I don't know what topology this is. Where is the PFsense firewall/router in this. Use Dia if important.
"Does anyone know if Pfsense queues up the packets once the rate limit is hit like with Cisco commercial grade router does?"
Dropped packets aren't a problem; that's kinda how a packet switched network is supposed to work. Packets don't make it sometimes and that's okay. TCP will just resend them so I don't see the issue or the relevance of the question to the statement "Unfortunately this will be at a site where there are users 24/7 but not IT staff (think hotel) so I'd like to keep moving parts as minimal as possible...not sure if that's possible with pfsense."
Does that mean that you don't already have it installed or that you have but don't want to install 2 nics..or why do people not get as confused as I do when answering networking questions ><
Yeah, that's a bit confusing. Do you need to create zones separate from one another, Vlan out of pfsense to routers? Or perhaps DMZ a wireless access point(s) then to separate routers?
Honestly fellas I'm not sure on BOTH your questions. I was just trying to see if i can pass along useful answers/information along to Tufnel at Spiceworks. ( shruggs shoulders). I reread the entire forum convo about this way early today and no one else new either. Sorry If i confused you or wasted your time.
