pfSense: Atheros card not being listed

Dear those of the Tek Syndicate family,

I recently moved into an apartment and I really didn't want to be forced to use comcast's crappy modem/router combo thingy. So I re-purposed an old machine into a pfsense router. It is running version 2.1.5. I grabbed a atheros based wireless card to be able to turn it into an AP and because I read that atheros cards have the best support in freebsd. After I get it installed and booted into pfsense I go through assigning interfaces only realize that the card is not showing up to be assigned. The machine doesn't even realize that I have the card plugged in. I changed pcie slots hopping that it would be a quick fix but to no avail. So now I am in a situation that I don't know the solution to. I need help figuring out why this card is not being detected by pfsense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Much Obliged,

You could try the 2.2 beta, but most wireless cards aren't supported, especially anything n and newer. You're better off using an external AP.

Well that's unfortunate. But if I am going down that route do you have any suggestions for good APs?

The unifi stuff is great, you can get the n version pretty cheap, the pro and ac versions are a bit more expensive but still worth it in my opinion.

You can just use an old router if you have one, just disable everything except wifi and use it as an ap/switch.
