Personal Computer for Father

Hi, my father's computer is outdated/destroyed by malware and we're currently looking for a new one. I suggested that we try building a new one from scratch and reused parts instead of simply buying a generic one from Best Buy.

Uses: Generic stuff, email, surfing the Web, watching movies/YouTube/Netflix. Day-to-day stuff

Budget: Currently there is a sale on a generic PC at Best Buy that he told me is priced around 200 dollars. I told him that we were definitely going to be able to beat that price with a DYI one. So the budget for this build is anywhere from 200-250 dollars.

Parts I've collected so far:

Intel Pentium G3258 Anniversary Edition - Heard this one is pretty good, fast, integrated graphics? We're not planning on buying a GPU at all so I hope this will handle the movies/Netflix/YouTube function.

ECS B85H3-M7 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard: I just chose this one because it was the lowest price on pcpartpicker and would conform with the CPU

8 GB of DDR3-1600 RAM from Team Zeus Red: I think that 8 GB might be a little bit excessive but the generic ones nowadays come with 4 GB and from my knowledge more RAM means a generally more crisp experience which is always nice.

500 GB Seagate Barracuda HDD: I think 500 GB is more than enough, he's definitely not going to be using up much space or capping this out.

Conclusion: The total for this come outs to about 210 dollars. We're re-using the case and PSU from his last generic computer. Would you say that this set up is the best for its price compared to a 200 dollar generic PC from Best Buy? If it is not then could someone link me to a generic PC on sale that is just as good?

windows licence??

you can get one for 50 dollars if you look for it or use https://www.g2a.com/r/maco2035 on g2g

There is a guy on here selling windows 7 pro licenses for $15.  http://mskeystore.tictail.com/product/windows-7-pro

For those uses and budget it sounds to me like he's better off getting a cheap laptop from Best Buy or amazon. Plus you get the portability of a laptop. Does he need a desktop for something?

Yeah, at this low end, consider just buying one off the shelf.

If you want to build it, get Windows from the seller in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum for $15, and maybe a Athlon 5350 system.

Couple things to keep in mind.  If your old computer was really old it might not have a 24pin and 4 pin supplement mobo connector.  Check to make sure your old case had a micro ATX mobo or has the standoffs for such.

I actually just found a great barebones kit on TigerDirect.com for about 225 dollars with 4GB of RAM and a 1TB HDD with a new case, MOBO, and a A6-5400K APU. Could any of you tell me about APU performance for the usage/performance I'm looking at?
