Hey so I recently picked up the thermaltake Core P 3. Love the looks of these cases so I figured I would go with it. Those of you who know the case know that it comes with a pci extender cable so you can have your gpu on the side to view it. Well I decided to orientate the gpu this way and now all my games get about 10-20fps instead of the 60+ they used to.
Does anyone know any trouble shooting tips for these cables? Pretty much everywhere I googled people said it doesn't effect gaming.
Also for anyone interested I may do a review and rundown of the case with pics in a few days or so
I have heard that the PCI-E riser that thermaltake includes is of low quality, can run gpu-z something to stress the card and see what pcie-e mode it is running at?
I'll do that tomorrow. Heading out for night shift. In other news I booted up again. My mouse lagged like hell for a minute then went back to normal. Tested some games and they all run great. Still need to do someone tests though
Ya I'll test it both ways. But I'm 99% sure it's the riser. Did a bit of googling and I guess thermaltake ships this case with the worlds shittiest risers. I'll probably end up buying a different one just in case.
From using one in another case that riser cable likes to be straight in the slot without any bending/twist pressure otherwise it can be a bit intermittent. I'm considering simply using some hot glue along the edge of the slot with the cable held straight and then install the GPU once the glue has cooled.
Cheers man I'll have to buy that one. Have you had any issues with it at all? I did some tests this morning with the one I got and it's just brick wall after brick wall. Put it back to the normal confige and everything is gravy. I really want to get another cable to I can have my card orientated the way I have in the picture. I'm just hesitant to get another cable after this crap one.
Welp it's a 144$ Canadian with shipping....shit. I may try to contact thermaltake and see if the new one will work first. If that doesn't work I'll go buy that fancy one
I don't think the cable itself is particularly bad but the PCI-E end only locks at the rear like all standard slots and the inserted part may not be quite thick enough or something and works loose at the other end of the slot with any pressure.
This my setup below and that worked for weeks until I moved the GPU to check for dust etc. which dislodged the riser at the front of the slot. After making sure the cable seated in the slot and sat straight up it's again been running 24/7 for weeks without issue.
